CMF is a consumer technology brand founded in August 2023. Originally established as a sub-brand of Nothing Technology Limited (Nothing), CMF focuses on accessible, design-driven consumer products including smartphones, audio products and smartwatches. In September 2026, Nothing announced that CMF would operate as a standalone Indian company, majority-owned by Indian shareholders and headquartered in India. CMF will have its own team and research and development operations in India, while Nothing will remain a shareholder and partner.[1]
Company History
Alongside the main Nothing brand, the company introduced CMF in August 2023. Originally launched as a new sub-brand of Nothing, CMF focused on accessible, design-driven consumer products.[2]
CMF launched with three products: CMF Watch Pro, CMF Buds Pro and Power 65W GaN . It has since released newer models of each of these products and expanded its product line into phones as well as diversifying its audio offering with the likes of CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Headphone Pro.[2]
On 25 September 2025, Nothing announced plans to establish CMF as an independent India-based business through a strategic joint venture with Optiemus. The venture was intended to expand manufacturing and research and development capabilities in India and develop CMF into a global consumer technology brand.[4]
CMF India Private Limited was incorporated in India on 23 December 2025.[5]
On 21 September 2026, Nothing co-founder and CEO Carl Pei announced in an article published on X that CMF would be spun out of Nothing and become a standalone Indian company. The new company would be majority Indian-owned, headquartered in India and have its own team and research and development operations in the country. Nothing would remain a shareholder and partner.[1]
Corporate Structure
CMF originally operated as a product line and sub-brand within Nothing Technology Limited. In September 2026, Carl Pei announced that CMF would transition from a product line inside the London-based Nothing company into a company of its own.[1]
CMF will be controlled and majority-owned in India, with its headquarters, team and research and development operations based in the country. Nothing will retain a stake in the company and continue as a shareholder and partner rather than remaining its parent company.[1]
Nothing will continue to support CMF through its technology, engineering capabilities, supplier relationships and global infrastructure.[1]
The transition builds on the strategic relationship between Nothing and Optiemus, which was announced in 2025 as part of plans to establish CMF as an India-based global consumer technology business.[4]
CMF Brand
CMF is a well known term within product manufacturing, which stands for “Colour, Material, Finish”, referring to three categories of product design. The CMF name reflects the brand's focus on design fundamentals, and the brand originally operated under the name CMF by Nothing.[2]
